Merrick Scholarship Recipient
University of Notre Dame – Bachelor’s Pre-Medicine & English
College of William & Mary – MBA

Jill’s impressive resume comes as a surprise only to those that don’t know her. Voted “Most Likely to Succeed” by her classmates in 2005, Jill recently became the majority owner of TARS Trucking, an affiliate of Value-Added Processing, Inc. (VAP Steel) where she is also the Chief Financial Officer. Keeping the “Steel City” moniker alive in Pittsburgh, VAP Steel is a true family based company. What Jill loves most about her career is that she has the opportunity to work with her brothers, Mark Mazur (SLS ‘07 - President of VAP Steel), and Daniel Mazur (SLS ‘11 - VP of VAP Steel and Director of Sales). “The past 3 years have been filled with countless industry, environmental, and economical challenges for our businesses; but I am proud of the ways we have been able to navigate the very difficult times... persevering, innovating, and adapting to not just succeed, but to grow and thrive.” The culmination of becoming CFO for VAP Steel was preceded by a 10-year career in Healthcare Operations, Consulting, and Finance.

Prior to continuing the early trend of Merrick Scholars to attend Notre Dame, Jill dove head first into a variety of activities at Seton LaSalle. It comes as no surprise that Jill was a member of the National Honor Society, but she also spent her free time as a peer tutor and joined Big Sisters, S.A.D.D., Rebels for Life, Campus Ministry, Special Olympics, Yearbook, and the Art Club. She also enjoyed entertaining her classmates as a member of the Variety Show and the Spring Musical. When she wasn’t running from one activity to another, you could also find her running as a member of the Cross Country team or in the pool with the Swim and Dive team. However, she always understood that the classroom came first. Jill spent her final moments at Seton LaSalle addressing her fellow classmates as the Valedictorian of the Class of 2005.

Jill now resides in Palmyra, PA with her husband Jonathan. She met her match when she found Jonathan who serves as an Active Duty Major for the PA Army National Guard as both a Blackhawk Instructor Pilot and Battalion Executive Officer; he is also the Head Coach & Program Director of the Palmyra High School Wrestling team. When the Regets aren’t caught up in their busy careers, they spend time at home with their 2 dogs, Stanley and Arnold, a rescue cat named Kitty and two newly rescued kittens, Wilma and Georgie.

When considering all of her accomplishments, one of the highlights of Jill’s life has actually been an achievement of her sister, Ann (SLS ‘03). In 2020, Jill traveled to Atlanta to watch Ann compete in the Olympic Trials as she participated in the Marathon event. When she’s not running marathons, Ann owns and operates Runners Love Yoga, a successful yoga/running athletic apparel business.  Runners Love Yoga offers online yoga at runners love yoga.tv, and you can find additional activewear at relayactive.com.

Not to be outdone by her sister, Jill now competes as an ultramarathon open-water swimmer, since transitioning from her career as a competitive gymnast! Last year, Jill swam 13 miles around the island of Key West (which took about 6 hours). If you plan on spending any time in Bermuda this fall, you can catch Jill circumnavigating the sound of Bermuda! “One of my goals in the next several  years is to cross the English Channel.”

Oh, one last thing. Jill is also a professional artist. “Work doesn’t allow for much time to paint  lately, but someday I will be able to devote more time to this creative passion.” You can find Jill’s  art on Instagram, @jillypaintings
